HOUSTON – Houston police had an interesting start to the Fourth of July when a shooting victim came up to them while investigating a DWI crash in Third Ward. Moments later, a second DWI crash occurred at the same scene.

According to Lt. Riley with the Houston Police Department, it all started around 2 a.m. when a club on Emancipation Ave. near Texas Southern University began letting people out. At some point, there was a fight that escalated into a shooting, where at least one woman was hit in the shoulder.

About a mile away, in the 2200 block of Wheeler Ave., Lt. Riley said HPD and the Houston Fire Department were investigating a DWI crash. No injuries were reported but police had a driver in custody. That’s when the unidentified woman walked up to medics and explained to them how she was shot in the crossfire outside the club.

While emergency crews were treating the shooting victim’s injuries and officers were investigating the crash, Lt. Riley said another drunk driver hit one of the tow trucks. That driver was also detained.

No additional information was shared, as of this writing, but officials are continuing their investigation in all three respective cases.
