It happened right before 11 p.m., on the Fourth of July, according to Captain Marcus Kinnard-Bing with Harris County Sheriff’s Office - Vehicular Crimes Division. Responding officers found the unidentified boy, 10, down in the middle of the intersection of Windy Stone and Concord Green in Katy.

The little boy was airlifted to a trauma center via Lifeflight, where Capt. Kinnard-Bing says he died from his injuries moments later.

It’s unclear what the child was doing out at the time or if he was being supervised by an adult.

Meanwhile, detectives were able to find the bike at Greenhouse and Keith Harrow, just half a mile away from the crash scene.

Deputies are looking into nearby surveillance footage to assist in their investigation as there may be evidence showing the driver dislodging the bicycle from the SUV.

No additional information has been shared, as of this writing, but the hit-and-run driver remains at large and is facing charges for failing to stop and render aid.
