LIVE SATELLITE: Tracking Beryl’s path as parts of SE Texas under tornado, flash flood warning

Hurricane Beryl made landfall just before 4 a.m. Monday at Matagorda.

KPRC 2 Meteorologist Caroline Brown says just because Beryl has made landfall does not mean it’s over - this is just the beginning. Parts of southeast Texas still have to do with storm surges, heavy downpours, and of course tropical tornadoes.

At last check, a flash flood warning was issued for the following locations: Chambers, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto and Walker counties until 3 p.m.

Key Takeaways from National Weather Service at 10 a.m. Monday

1. There is a danger of life-threatening storm surge inundation to continue through the afternoon along the coast of Texas from Port O’Connor to Sabine Pass, including the eastern portion of Matagorda Bay, and Galveston Bay.

Residents in those areas should follow any advice given by local officials and follow evacuation orders.

2. Damaging wind gusts near the core of Beryl will continue to spread northward within the Tropical Storm Warning area, including the Houston metro area, for the next several hours.

3. Considerable flash and urban flooding is expected through the rest of the day and into tonight across portions of the middle and upper Texas Gulf Coast and eastern Texas. Minor to isolated river flooding is also expected.

4. Rip currents will cause life-threatening beach conditions through Tuesday across portions of the northern and western Gulf Coast. Beachgoers should heed warning flags and the advice of lifeguards and local officials before venturing into the water.
