CORPUS CHRIST, Texas – As Tropical Storm Beryl enters the Gulf of Mexico, its sights are set on the Texas Gulf Coast.
Nearly right in the center of the cone of concern in Corpus Christi, an area that was just battered by Tropical Storm Alberto just over two weeks ago.
On Friday, locals spent the day alongside city workers filling 14,000 sandbags.
It’s just one part of the preparation process.
“Going to be putting them in front of the garage and then lining the doors with them,” said Jesus Villanueva. “I have a pretty high house, but you just never know, because the back is higher than the front. It’s crazy.”
Meanwhile on the popular vacation barrier island of North Padre Island, the beach was lined with people and vehicles celebrating the holiday weekend.
“Been through a lot of stuff, so it’s okay,” said Adelfa Diaz, of San Antonio.
KPRC 2′s Gage Goulding: “Have you noticed people in the last day or so getting ready or preparing for a Tropical Storm?”
Adelfa Diaz: ”Kinda, but I think they’re the local people, and we’re like, we’re the people coming in just to have fun. But I think I do notice that.”
A Hurricane Watch and Storm Surge watch has been issued for the Texas Gulf Coast from the Mexico border to the Galveston Bay.
