1 killed during house fire Monday morning, Houston fire chief says unclear if it was due to Hurricane Beryl

HOUSTON – As Hurricane Beryl continues to push through southeast Texas, first responders are in full force with rescue efforts.

During an interview with Chief Sam Peña with the Houston Fire Department, he confirmed that at least one person has died following a house fire. It happened on Bendell Road off Gulf Fwy near South Texas, miles away from Hobby Airport.

KPRC 2 reporter Corley Peel was live at the Houston Office of Emergency Management, where she caught up with Chief Peña.

During the live interview, the chief mentioned they have also had dozens of emergency water rescues Monday morning.

Chief Peña said it’s unclear if the housefire was due to the storm, as of this writing.
