Closures and cancellations announced for Tuesday following Hurricane Beryl

Hurricane Beryl left severe damage across parts of the Houston area Monday morning.

Several school districts and other businesses and agencies have announced closures for Tuesday.

Tuesday closures

Alief ISD

Due to Tropical Storm Beryl, hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses in and around the Houston area, including those in Alief ISD, are without power. In order to ensure the safe return of our students and staff, we will remain closed on Tuesday, July 9th. This will allow the power companies the opportunity to restore power as well as our staff to safely assess any damage that may have been done to their homes. Please remain safe and we will continue to keep you informed every step of the way.

Cleveland ISD

Due to impacts from Hurricane Beryl, all Cleveland ISD campuses and facilities will be CLOSED on Tuesday, July 9th, and Wednesday, July 10th, 2024. All district functions and events are canceled. We will inform the community about Thursday, July 11th at a later time.

College of the Mainland

Due to the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Beryl to our community, facilities, students and employees, College of the Mainland will be closed on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. All classes and campus operations at all COM locations are cancelled at this time.

Conroe ISD

Due to the impact of Hurricane Beryl, Conroe ISD offices, campuses, and summer programs will continue to be closed on Tuesday, July 9. This will allow time for staff to safely assess their homes and utility companies to restore power.

At this time, the Board Workshop scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, will take place as planned. Updates will be shared on the District’s website.

Crosby ISD

Due to the impacts of Hurricane Beryl, Crosby ISD will remain closed on Tuesday, July 9. All student and athletic activities are canceled.

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD

All CFISD schools and facilities will be closed again on Tuesday, July 9 due to widespread power outages and the amount of debris on roads. Thank you for your patience as CFISD and the entire Cy-Fair community continue to recover from Hurricane Beryl. Please stay safe!

Fort Bend County Jury Duty

Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, jury duty scheduled for July 9, 2024, at the Fort Bend County Justice Center has been canceled.

Galena Park ISD

Due to the number of homes and district facilities without power, Galena Park ISD campuses and district offices will remain closed on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. All students and employees should remain at home. Maintenance workers, grounds workers, and custodians should contact their supervisors. We encourage everyone to prioritize their safety and exercise caution when traveling.

Galveston College

Due to ongoing cleanup efforts as a result of Hurricane Beryl and in preparation for the return of students, faculty and staff, Galveston College will be closed on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. All classes and student activities for Tuesday, July 9, are canceled. The closure includes both the GC main campus, located at 4015 Avenue Q, and the GC Applied Technology Center (ATC), located at 7626 Broadway Street, in Galveston. It is anticipated that GC will reopen on Wednesday, July 10, for regular business hours and the first day of Summer II classes.

Galveston ISD

The district will remain closed tomorrow – Tuesday, July 9th – as we continue to survey and assess damage due to Hurricane Beryl. Employees that are required to report to work tomorrow will be contacted directly by their supervisors. Please continue to monitor emails, text messages and social media for further updates.

Harris County Buildings & Courts

All Harris County buildings, including the Harris County Courthouses will be closed to the public Tuesday, July 9th. To find your new court date, contact your attorney or the court in which your case is assigned or monitor the appropriate clerk’s website.

Harris Health

Harris Health will close all of its outpatient and clinic facilities, with the exception of the following services OB/GYN Clinic at Ben Taub Tower and Dialysis Center at Quentin Mease Health Center on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 as we continue to recover from the effects of Hurricane Beryl. Patients with appointments are being notified of the closures and rescheduling options.

Houston Community College

Houston Community College campuses will remain closed Tuesday, July 9, to allow students and employees time to recover from the effects of Hurricane Beryl.

Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, July 9 as we continue to clean up storm debris. Animals were kept safe in their barns and night houses, and a dedicated group of team members continue to provide incredible care for them.

Humble ISD

Humble ISD will be CLOSED Tuesday, July 9th, for buildings to be assessed and roadways to be cleared after the storm. Summer School Graduation will be postponed until a later date, which will be announced when finalized.

Lone Star College

Due to Hurricane Beryl, all Lone Star College properties and operations will remain closed (and classes will be canceled) on Tuesday, July 9.

Rice University

Due to ongoing debris cleanup and power outages in the region in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, Rice will have a modified schedule Tuesday, July 9. All classes and events, including camps and general athletic activities, are canceled. Only designated essential personnel should report to campus.

Spring Branch ISD

Due to the ongoing issues facing our region following Hurricane Beryl, Spring Branch ISD will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, July 9, 2024. All summer school programs are canceled and all facilities and offices remain closed. Essential staff will be notified by their supervisor.

San Jacinto College

Due to the ongoing impacts to our region from Hurricane Beryl, San Jacinto College will remain closed on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, for all classes, operations and activities.

The San Jacinto College Administration and Office of Emergency Management continue to closely monitor the forecasts and recovery efforts across the region. The San Jacinto College Police Department and facilities teams are assessing the campuses as it is deemed safe to do so.

An update for Wednesday will be sent on Tuesday afternoon.

Vet Tech Institute of Houston

Due to power related issues from Beryl, Vet Tech Institute of Houston will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
