Lakewood Church opens its doors as cooling, water distribution center to residents in Houston area

The church will open again on Wednesday from 8a.m. -8 p.m. for residents in need.

HOUSTON – As the storm clouds cleared out, Tuesday was the beginning of a challenging journey for many Houston families affected by Hurricane Beryl.

With power outages widespread, and heat advisories at hand, residents are grappling with stifling temps and the lack of essential supplies and services.

For this storm, Lakewood Church opened its doors for those Houstonians who may need to catch a break.

The church set up a cooling center and distributed bottles of water to help people in the aftermath of the storm.

Giving water and a cool place to chill is a lifeline for people, especially with temps remaining in the mid to high 90s. One resident expressed profound gratitude for the church’s support, “The storm was outrageous, the winds were scandalous. But I thank God the church is here, giving out water. We can’t survive without it,” he said.

Volunteers will be at the church loading water into visitor’s vehicles and welcoming individuals into the cooling center, which will remain open until 8 p.m.
