High-speed chase in Cypress ends with suspect stealing police car, jumping barrier and falling 100 feet

A high-speed chase through Cypress escalated when a suspect stole a patrol vehicle from deputies, eventually crashing and jumping over the side of a transition ramp.

The incident began around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday when Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies pursued a suspect in a stolen vehicle along 290 Outbound Transition to 99. The chase, which reached speeds exceeding 100 mph, ended in the suspect crashing the stolen car.

After the crash, the suspect fled on foot, evading deputies and stealing an HCSO patrol vehicle. Another high-speed pursuit started, ending when the suspect wrecked the patrol car on the transition ramp to 99 South. The suspect then jumped over the barrier, falling over 100 feet to the field below.

The suspect was transported with injuries to Hermann Downtown Hospital and is expected to survive. The HCSO is continuing its investigation into the incident.
