HOUSTON – Trucks are lined up on Central Street waiting to unload their garbage, mostly storm debris. The location is one of six neighborhood depositories.
Mark Bandor said this is his second visit unloading storm debris since Hurricane Beryl touched down.
“Why did you guys come out here,” KPRC 2′s Rilwan Balogun asked.
“I didn’t want to wait,” Bandor said. “I want to get rid of it. It’s easier to get rid of it. If I knew it was open before, I would have done it before. This is a lot easier.”
The depositories are free for residents to use. People must bring their ID (Texas Driver’s license; Texas Department of Public Safety issued I.D. card; or Texas License to Carry Permit) and proof of residency (utility bill or lease agreement). People are required to live within city limits to use it. People are limited to four drop-offs per month, according to the city.
“We try to get them in quick,” said Kim Roberts an employee at the southeast location. “Get them in and out because the line gets real long.”
The city will pick up garbage throughout the week along with heavy tree waste and storm debris.
People can also use 3-1-1 to report any storm-related concerns.
