HOUSTON – Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is calling out Harris County’s top leadership, accusing the judge of denying assistance before Hurricane Beryl swept through southeast Texas.
In a fiery message, Patrick said he reached out to Judge Lina Hidalgo several times ahead of Hurricane Beryl making landfall, where in the final message he alleges she said simply, “We’re good.”
“We have not had one request from the County Judge of Harris County,” he said. “So I guess all of her citizens are fine in the unincorporated Harris County - but if she did, we’re here to fulfill it.”
His comments come just a couple of days after Hidalgo seemed to praise Patrick, who has been serving as acting governor in Greg Abbott’s absence saying he “took the necessary steps to allow the Administration to authorize [federal] aid.”

Later that afternoon, President Joe Biden approved a request to declare a federal emergency disaster declaration for the state of Texas.
I’ve spoken to Mayor Whitmire, Judge Hidalgo, and spoke earlier with Lieutenant Governor Patrick and @FEMA_Deanne regarding the devastating impacts of Hurricane Beryl on Texas.

The acting governor subsequently took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to suggest the president was politicizing Hurricane Beryl by briefly discussing the phone call he had with him.
“We had a cordial call today that ended up with him granting my request for a major disaster declaration,” Patrick claimed. “But that’s not good enough for him.”
I am disappointed that President Biden is turning Hurricane Beryl into a political issue. We had a cordial call today that ended up with him granting my request for a major disaster declaration. But that’s not good enough for him. He is falsely accusing me that I was not…
