3 heat-related deaths reported due to power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl

Three heat-related deaths have been reported after Hurricane Beryl knocked out more than 2.1 million customers’ power, according to the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science.

The report stated that two men and a woman died from hyperthermia due to environmental heat exposure due to loss of electricity during and after Beryl.

It’s been at least five days for thousands who have lost power and dealing with the sweltering Texas heat. Hospitals across the Houston area have seen an increase in visits since Monday.

The woman, identified as Candie York, 50, was pronounced dead at Houston Methodist Baytown on July 10. Her cause of death was due to hyperthermia complicating hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and severe obesity.

One of the men, identified as Oscar Rodriguez, 78, was pronounced dead on July 10 at Memorial Hermann Greater Heights. The third victim has been identified as Charles Richard Anderson Sr., 76, of Pasadena. Both men cause of death was due to hyperthermia.
