KATY, Texas – A Katy daycare has been in limbo for several days after CenterPoint Energy partially fixed its generators and hasn’t sent a lineman to finish the job.

At least 200 families have been impacted as Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Cinco Ranch East closed its doors on July 8 after millions lost power due to Hurricane Beryl.

According to CenterPoint Energy’s outage map, the address shows green “Energized with Potential Localized Outages.”

The operations manager of the daycare center said because it’s a commercial building, there are three phases to turn on its power. Partial power was restored on July 11 -- but only the front of the building had power and the rest remained dark with no working A/C.

Even worse, the owner said live wires are dangling near the building, making it a hazard to the public.

An electrician was called to assist but said they could not touch the wires because the transformer lines belong to CenterPoint Energy.

The daycare owner said most commercial buildings may be experiencing the same problem but are listed that their power restored on the CenterPoint Energy map.

On Friday, a lineman came out to work on the building, only for the A/C to work but the power was turned off. The live wires were also still dangling near the building. The owner had another electrician come out but said the third phase is still not fixed by the company.

On Sunday, the director of the daycare said another lineman came out to work on the building but did half of the work before taking a break and then leaving, stating that he needed more help but never gave a time on when he would be back.

As of Monday, parents are still looking for daycare options as they have to go to work. The daycare has made temporary accommodations by working with another daycare in Rosenberg until the issues are fixed.

As of Monday morning, CenterPoint Energy’s outage map shows that it has restored power to 1,998,597 customers since last week. Approximately 263,030 customers still have no power.

KPRC 2 has reached out to CenterPoint Energy for a response and will update this story as soon as we get more information.
