HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Following Hurricane Beryl, reports have come in about Houston residents experiencing price gouging on essential items like gas, food, and hotel accommodations.

Last week, Acting Governor Dan Patrick announced that President Joe Biden approved a federal emergency disaster declaration for Texas, one day after Hurricane Beryl struck Southeast Texas. This declaration activated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, which makes it illegal for businesses or individuals to sell or lease necessities at exorbitant or excessive prices during a state of emergency.
