Sugar Land PD warns of upcoming road closures, here’s when and where they’ll be

SUGAR LAND, Texas – Have any plans for the final weekend of July? Hopefully, residents will actually get to enjoy themselves since Hurricane Beryl knocked out power to millions of residents.

However, before people start hitting the town, they’d better be aware of the traffic because there will be several road closures in Sugar Land, starting Friday, July 26 at 9 p.m. through Monday, July 29 at 5 a.m.

According to the Texas DPS and the Sugar Land Police Department, the southbound main lanes of US-59/IH-69 from University Blvd. to SH-99 will be closed. Traffic going southbound on US-59/IH-69 will be diverted to the frontage road via Exit 106 and will re-enter just north of SH-99.

Here is a list of additional closures meant to improve traffic flow that drivers should be aware of:

  • The northbound U-Turn, southbound entrance ramp at Sweetwater, and the southbound University Entrance ramp will close.
  • The River Park southbound frontage road ingress/egress will be closed along with the two access points to the shopping center south of River Park.
  • In addition, TxDOT will close the US 59/69 southbound Frontage Road (just south of University) and the existing bridge entrance ramp for 12 months. A temporary entrance ramp has been placed just South of University Blvd to maintain access to the US 59/IH 69 main lanes.

Correction:

Initially, the road closures were scheduled to begin Friday, July 19 but has since been re-scheduled.
