The City of Houston is letting residents know about an opportunity to replace broken weatherheads at no charge.
This comes 10 days after Hurricane Beryl blasted through this area.
The Weatherhead is the point where the line enters the home through a pipe, and if it’s damaged, the customer will need to repair it before service can be restored.
At Wednesday’s city council meeting, Mayor Pro-Tem Martha Castex-Tatum announced that CenterPoint is working with Houston Habitat for Humanity to replace weatherheads for free. This should get power back on faster for those with broken equipment.
“Originally we were told that a weatherhead was a homeowner expense, but in this situation, Habitat is working to repair those weatherheads so that Centerpoint can get the power restored for those properties,” Castex-Tatum said.
If you live in Houston and need your Weatherhead replaced, email your name, address, and contact number to construction@houstonhabitat.org to get the process started.
CenterPoint representatives also released the following statement:
“Centerpoint Energy is working with local nonprofits we have longstanding relationships with to help us identify disadvantaged customers that have damaged Weatherheads due to Hurricane Beryl. Local electricians that are a part of the homeserve® contractor network will conduct the repair work free of charge to the customer. To qualify for this free service, homeowners must live in a “disadvantaged community” as outlined in the justice40 initiative. The nonprofits engaged in this program are; Houston Habitat for Humanity, Vision Galveston, Rebuilding Together Houston, United Way Brazoria, and the Tejano Center.”
