19-year-old man killed in drive-by shooting on Eastex Freeway feeder; gunman still on the run

HOUSTON – A 19-year-old man who was killed in a drive-by shooting Monday morning along the Eastex Freeway has been identified.

Harris County deputies responded to the scene at the 2900 block of the Eastex Freeway, northbound feeder road, and found the victim inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as 19-year-old Jusnz Joseph.

Investigators learned that Joseph was driving a burgundy Cadillac northbound on the feeder road when he stopped at the intersection. At that moment, a gray or dark-colored SUV or crossover-type vehicle approached Joseph’s car and opened fire, striking and killing him.

Witnesses told KPRC 2 Reporter Corley Peel that they heard several gunshots at the intersection.

The suspects’ vehicle then fled the scene.

Second shooting

Roughly two miles away, investigators said there was a different shooting off the Eastex Freeway in the past 24 hours.

On Sunday, first responders showed up to a crash where they found a man dead inside a Ford Escape with multiple gunshot wounds.

“There’s a lot of violence in this area than normally, so I can’t say that they’re connected if there is any uptick like that,” said HCSO Sgt. Jason Brown.

Deputies said there could be more than one person involved in the shooting that killed Joseph.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-221-6000 or Crime Stoppers Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
