‘You can’t run from God’: Family seeks justice in shooting death of 14-year-old boy in Spring Branch

HOUSTON, Texas – The identity of a 14-year-old boy who was found shot to death inside a car Saturday afternoon in Spring Branch area has been released.

The teen has been identified as Abraham Choukair and his family is now seeking justice for his death.

“He’s got a lot of friends. He’s good with me, he’s good with mom, everybody loves him,” said the teen’s father.

Choukair’s cousin, said he wanted to join the Marine Corp and eventually become a paramedic.

“He had a very bright future ahead of him,” Choukair’s cousin said.

What happened

Houston police responded to a report that a person was shot at a parking lot, located at 8800 Hammerly Boulevard, at around 12:45 p.m.

The teen was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of the parked vehicle, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Houston Fire Department.

A witness told investigators that the teen was last seen talking to a Hispanic woman in a black hoodie. The woman was followed by a Hispanic man, who was seen wearing a black hoodie with white designs on the front and back, blue pants and black sandals. The man was also seen carrying a black and white Nike backpack.

Investigators believe the duo was seen running into the apartment complex around the time of the murder.

“He can run but he can’t run from God,” Choukair’s father said.

A GoFundMe account has since been set for his family to help pay for funeral expenses.
