HOUSTON – A teenager is recovering in the hospital after he was carjacked and shot right in front of his mother Tuesday night.
The gunman accused, identified as Matthew Hubbard, was captured hours later in southwest Houston.

The 16-year-old and his mom had just pulled into a Jimmy John’s parking lot on Spencer Highway in Deer Park just after 9 p.m. That’s when the gunman walked up and demanded their car.
As they were getting out of it, police say the gunman shot the teen in the chest. He was then flown to Memorial Hermann where at last check, Deer Park police said he was in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the suspect led Baytown police on a chase after they spotted him about three hours later. Investigators say he went north from Baytown toward US 90 and across the Ship Channel Bridge. Harris County Precinct 8 Constable deputies took the pursuit over once the man went into Clear Lake and then back into the south-central area off Hwy 288.

The suspect evaded law enforcement temporarily but K9 officers with Houston Police Department found him off Bellfort and picked up the chase. It ended when the suspect crashed into parked cars and a detached garage.
He was taken into custody by police.
Deer Park Police Department and the HPD are working together to sort out charges with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
