HOUSTON – Houstonians are still struggling to recover from Hurricane Beryl, with many still dealing with property damage, FEMA applications, and price gouging.

Many residents also needed help finding care for their pets following the storm, and the Houston Humane Society was able to step in and provide supplies, shelter, and healthcare to those in need.

The animal shelter did have water and wind damage, but quickly rebounded to assist the community.

Now the shelter is dealing with an unexpected expense impacting their support staff. The Houston Humane Society has two broken air conditioners in two of their buildings.

Macy Staes with HHS said the conditions are making things difficult for their support staff.

“The humidity is at like 93%, so it feels boiling... It’s just not safe,” Staes said. “We are really looking for the community’s support so we can continue providing our relief efforts.”

Those relief efforts include volunteers going door-to-door in the community, offering spay and neuter services, vaccinations, supply distributions, and more.

HHS has a fundraising goal of $30,000 to cover the costs of replacing these two air conditioning units.
