Vice President Kamala Harris will be back in Houston next week to attend Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee’s funeral, the White House announced Saturday.
This will be Vice President Harris’ third trip to the Lone Star State in the last month and her second visit to Houston in that timeframe.

On Wednesday, the vice president visited Houston’s Emergency Operations Center and received a briefing on the area’s recovery following Hurricane Beryl. The following day, she appeared at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Downtown Houston to serve as the keynote speaker at the American Federation of Teachers’ 88th national convention.
Earlier this month, she was in Dallas to deliver a keynote speech at the 71st Boulé of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Both Vice President Harris and Congresswoman Jackson Lee were members of the sorority.
She’ll be returning to Houston on Thursday, August 1, for Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s funeral.
“There was never a trite or trivial conversation with the Congresswoman,” Vice President Harris said following the congresswoman’s passing. “She was always fighting for the people of Houston and the people of America.”
Following President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek reelection, Vice President Harris has emerged as the presumptive Democratic nominee in the 2024 Presidential Race.
