High school students raise money for man who was left nearly blind by acid attack

HARRIS COUNTY – Several high school students are working together to raise funds for a man who had acid thrown on his face in an attack that left him nearly blind.

The students are working in collaboration with the Harris County Precinct 2 Student2Government Civic Leadership Academy.

Leonel Correa teaches guitar lessons at the Castillo Community Center. He speaks three languages and loves to play his guitar and sing. Back in 2021, someone attacked Correa with acid, injuring his eyes severely and costing him almost all of his vision.

In two weeks, Correa will travel to Boston for an appointment that he hopes will improve his sight. The students who organized the fundraiser to help him are hoping he will have no financial burdens after he recovers from his injuries.

Correa’s appointment is scheduled for August 12. He will have to make the trip by bus, because the air pressure from a plane could potentially cause further damage to his eyes. He is set to leave on August 9.

The students are still collecting donations to help Correa, and the link to donate can be found here.
