Man accused of shooting, killing clerk during robbery at Chambers County convenience store

CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas – A man is being held in the Chambers County Jail without bond, accused of shooting and killing a clerk during a robbery at a convenience store Saturday.

Todd Carter is charged with capital murder in connection to the shooting death of Ginny Bagby.

The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office said it happened around 9:25 p.m. Saturday at the TimeMax convenience store at 16160 East IH-10 frontage road in the Cove area.

Deputies responded to the store after receiving of a report of an aggravated robbery. They arrived and found one of the store clerks, identified as Bagby, had been shot.

EMS and deputies rendered CPR and Bagby was taken to Memorial Hermann where she died from her injuries.

A customer who had been in the store and was a witness was able to provide a description of the suspect to deputies. Deputies located the suspect vehicle shortly afterwards and a short vehicle pursuit ensued.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Carter, was taken into custody.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim. We are thankful that witnesses came forward with information to help us bring this violent offender into our custody” said Sheriff Brian Hawthorne.

The investigation is ongoing.
