2 suspects arrested in Sugar Land mail theft bust

A traffic stop in Sugar Land led to the arrest of two people and the discovery of a significant amount of stolen mail.

On July 27, Sugar Land Police officers apprehended two suspects, Jae Barnett and Hodari King, both from Houston, for stealing mail.

At around 10 p.m. officers noticed a car driving with a stolen license plate near University Blvd. in the Telfair subdivision. When officers detained the driver and a passenger, officers discovered a large amount of mail in the back seat. Further investigation revealed that the stolen mail was from outside of Sugar Land.

The arrests were part of a collaborative effort between the Sugar Land Police Department and the U.S. Postal Inspectors Office.

Barnett and King now face charges for mail theft and could potentially face severe federal charges. The SLPD urges residents to report any incidents of mail theft to the United States Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.
