It’s back-to-school time, which can be troubling for some parents due to the money spent getting their kids prepared to go back to school.

Families with children in elementary through high school plan to spend an average of $890 for the start of the school year, and double that if they have a child headed to college.

But, we have some good news for parents! Tax-free weekend in Texas is approaching, ya’ll!

Tax-free weekend offers parents and others the opportunity to save money on essential items, including back-to-school items, right before the new school year begins for most students.

Starting Aug. 9 through Aug. 11, shoppers should expect to save around $8 per every $100 spent on items like clothing, footwear and school supplies, according to the Texas comptroller. For a full list of qualifying items during the sales tax holiday, visit the Texas Comptroller website.

For parents who aren’t able to make it to the stores physically, there are sales available online, as long as you purchase during the tax-free period.

And if you pay sales tax on qualifying items during the sales tax holiday, you can ask the seller for a refund of the tax paid, the Texas comptroller says.
