HOUSTON – CenterPoint Energy’s long-awaited power outage tracker is online, and the company made its deadline, promising a new and improved way for frustrated customers to get real-time information when the electricity goes out.
The August 1 deadline was promised by CEO Jason Wells during a Public Utilities Commission hearing into the company’s response to historic outages -- 2.6 million -- during Hurricane Beryl.
Key Takeaways
- The new tracker should show you the real-time status of your outage; whether a crew is assigned or not and the estimated time your power will be restored
- It’s supposed to be mobile-friendly 🎉
- Integrates weather so you can see how that may be impacting outages
- It’s cloud-based and CenterPoint says it shouldn’t go down like the old outage tracker did during the derecho in Houston
