“He told me they did that because they’re bullish on Houston and they have confidence in my administration,” Whitmire said.
Chevron has operated in California for more than 140 years but has been at odds with the state’s climate and energy policies. Other companies that moved to Texas from California in recent years include Tesla, Oracle, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Charles Schwab, and Toyota Motor North America.
According to a report from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, more than 44,400 jobs came to Texas from California between the years of 2010 and 2019.
The company said in a release that Chevron leadership will move to Houston before the end of 2024, and expects all corporate functions to migrate to Houston over the next five years.
Chevron said it has an estimated 7,000 employees in the Houston area and approximately 2,000 employees in San Ramon. California employees should see minimal impacts according to the company.
