Driver flees scene after deadly motorcycle crash in NE Houston

A motorcyclist is dead following a hit-and-run crash late Thursday night in northeast Houston.

Houston Police Department units responded to the crash at 5801 Mesa Dr. around 11:38 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a motorcycle that had been hit from behind by a gray Kia.

The man on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported the Kia driver fled the scene on foot.

The initial investigation shows the motorcyclist was heading northbound on Mesa Dr. and was stopped at a light when the Kia hit him.

UPDATE: The driver of the Kia, a 27-year-old man, was located hours later and taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No charges have been filed yet as the investigation continues.
