Lightning strike blamed for overnight house fire in The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Firefighters have determined a house fire overnight in The Woodlands was caused by a lightning strike.

The fire started at 12:48 a.m. on Smokey Oak Road in the Village of Panther Creek subdivision.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and found heavy fire coming from the roof of the home. They were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire.

The occupant of the home had gotten out before firefighters arrived along with her dogs. Firefighters searched the home and rescued a cat that was still inside.

The fire was declared under control in about 20 minutes.

Crews worked on salvage and overhaul confining most of the fire damage to the attic and garage.
