TV Actor Akili McDowell charged with murder in Houston shooting

TV actor Akili McDowell was charged with murder following the shooting death of Cesar Peralta at an East Houston apartment complex.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place around 9:15 p.m. at the 13503 block of North Thorntree, near Uvalde Road.

The victim, identified as 20-year-old Cesar Peralta, was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McDowell, known for his roles in TV shows and movies, including “David Makes Man” and “The Astronaut Wives Club,” was taken into custody and booked into the Harris County Jail. His bond is set at $400,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on August 5.

McDowell also faces a separate charge for theft, with a bond set at $210 for the latter offense.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the HCSO Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.

McDowell’s manager, Jonell Whitt, released the following statement to KPRC 2:

“This is an unfortunate situation and I am in prayer for Akili and those impacted by this tragedy.”
