Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that he is sending state-issued firefighting resources across Texas to combat increased wildfire threats. The announcement was made in a media release Wednesday.
According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, increased wildfire activity is expected in the northern and western regions of the state due to the areas’ dry conditions and high temperatures. Because of this expectation, the A&M Forest Service has risen the Wildland Preparedness Level up to a Level 2 distinction.

“Texas stands ready to support local officials and communities throughout our great state as the threat of wildfire activity increases in the coming days,” Gov. Abbott said in the statement. “Texas is deploying more than 200 personnel including firefighters and support staff, as well as tactical resources like fire engines, all-terrain vehicles, and bulldozers to provide on-the-ground assistance.”
Over the past week, more than 35 wildfires have burned more than 3,000 acres across Texas.
The press release also urged Texans to limit activities that cause sparks and follow instructions from local officials. For more information, visit the Texas A&M Forest Service website here.
