Walking art tour presents unique way to see Paris

PARIS – Paris is one of the most iconic and beloved cities in the world. From the Eiffel Tower to the Palace of Versailles, there is so much to see! But what’s the best way to tour the City of Light?

KPRC 2 anchor Keith Garvin took a walking art tour, where he not only was taught how to sketch art, but also learned about the famed neighborhood of Montmartre.

He was led by artist and entrepreneur Evelyne Mazzallon, creator and owner of iN Arts, which features artistic workshops.

“Today, you will be an artist in Montmartre, for the full day,” Mazzallon said to begin the tour. “The purpose of this tour is to discover Paris. To discover the district of Montmartre. Especially the artists who used to live here.”

It was a unique and fun—if not challenging—way to learn about the City of Light. Especially for Keith, who admittedly, is not much of an artist. But Mazzallon is a talented and patient teacher.

“When you draw, you have to make decision. And it’s your own decision,” Mazzallon said. “You have to decide before you put the first line on your paper. It’s the proportion and the composition.”

But remember: the purpose is to learn about Paris. On Keith’s tour, the subject was the Montmartre section of Paris.

“It used to be where Picasso settled down when he arrived in Paris,” explained Mazzallon. “This is where he drew the famous painting Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. He used to live here.”

It is certainly a hands-on approach to touring one of the world’s most iconic cities.

“The idea behind is through this practice of art is to discover Paris, to discover France, and to discover French culture, said Mazzallon.”

Mazzallon conducts her walking art tours in neighborhoods across Paris, including some classes inside the famed Louvre. If you are ever in Paris and would like to book a tour with her, you can reach out here to make an appointment through her LinkedIn profile.
