‘You tortured my dad’: Family pleads for person who hit, killed man in wheelchair in Pasadena to turn themselves in

PASADENA, Texas – A family is demanding answers after a hit and run driver killed a 73-year-old Pasadena man on his way to breakfast.

Loved ones identified Erasmo Perez as the man who died while in his electric wheelchair.

It happened Thursday around 6 a.m. near Southmore and Shaver Street in Pasadena.

The family says it is disheartening knowing days after the crash, nothing has changed and the driver is still out there.

They are hoping whoever drives the truck that hit Perez will come forward.

An electric wheelchair was 73-year-old Erasmo Perez’s main form of transportation.

“My dad was a social person. He loved to talk and he had so many friends,” said David Perez.

For the past eight years, Perez made his way to McDonald’s inside a Pasadena Walmart to eat breakfast every morning.

“They knew him already and he always had his sausage biscuit and a coffee every morning. Every morning, he did the same route,” David said. “He didn’t make it Thursday.”

David said his father was killed by a hit and run driver. Surveillance photos show flashes of the dark colored truck believed to be involved.

“This vehicle had no remorse,” David said. “It was at six in the morning and drug him for 210 feet, you know, and then pulled into a driveway to back out and then proceeded on. That tells me you tortured my dad. You know, you just, really, you just really tortured him.”

The wheelchair that helped him after being paralyzed from a stroke now turned to pieces.

“His wheelchair was in a dumpster. It was broken to pieces,” David said.

A memorial with pictures and Perez’s favorite meal is in place where he used to sit. His son has a message for the driver.

“Just come forward man. You know, leave it. Just do what you got, and be the honest man and just come forward, man. Nobody wants to hurt you. We just want justice for our fam, for our father,” he said.

Perez says he wants his father to be remembered as a great individual who loved his family.

Those with any information about the deadly hit and run are urged to call Pasadena Police.
