On the morning of November 12, 2007, 43-year-old Bethal Rawls was found dead in her apartment at 10225 Bissonnet St. in Houston.
One of Rawls’ family members said she had stopped answering her calls on November 11. Her body was discovered the following day after the concerned relative entered her home to check on her.
Responding officers noted that Rawls had suffered multiple injuries. An unknown male’s DNA was collected at the scene.
Houston Police Department conducted a thorough investigation, and several persons of interest were eliminated by the collected DNA evidence.
This year, investigators took another look at the case and determined that Lankford should have been a suspect based on the victim’s phone records and other evidence.
Lankford was interviewed by homicide detectives in February. His DNA was collected, and it was later determined to match the DNA from the crime scene.
On August 12, Lankford was arrested at his home without incident.
