Bank robbery suspect dies by suicide after police chase ends in SE Houston

HOUSTON – A suspect in a bank robbery in Galveston County is dead after shooting himself following a police chase Tuesday.

HPD says around 4:45 p.m., an alert was put out from the Dickinson Police Department about a bank robbery suspect. The robbery happened near Gulf Freeway and FM 517.

Officers with the League City Police Department found the suspect vehicle, a blue Chrysler van, on the Gulf Freeway near E. Medical Center in Webster at approximately 5:01 p.m. They tried to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect fled north towards Houston.

League City officers continued their pursuit with HPD assisting as the chase came into Houston.

HPD says the suspect hit a vehicle and a fixed object, causing damage and a flat tire. He also at one point crashed into a League City PD vehicle, according to HPD.

The pursuit ended at 4301 Alconbury Ln., when the van crashed.

HPD said the suspect got out of the car holding a gun. One officer fired at the suspect, but it is not known whether the suspect was hit.

The suspect then raised his gun and died by suicide.

HPD is investigating the case along with the League City Police Department.

No other injuries were reported to officers or bystanders.
