The storm destroyed businesses, homes, and land, leaving many people in the Houston area to repair what remained of their properties.

Now, in the month of August, many residents are still trying to stitch together what’s left of their belongings and are counting on the support of government agencies like FEMA to help rebuild their lives.

Since the storm, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved the Major Disaster Declaration for Hurricane Beryl which includes 17 impacted Texas counties.

But, the waiting process has become unbearable for some still asking, “Where are the funds!?”

Originally, FEMA representatives told KPRC 2 that if eligible, residents may receive a U.S. Treasury check or direct deposit within about 10 days of the inspector’s visit.

If you are applying for a grant, the funds may be issued seven to 10 days after your application. However, for larger-scale disasters such as Hurricane Beryl, it can take one to two months to receive reimbursement for eligible lodging expenses after receipts are submitted.

If it’s been 10 days, and you’re still waiting on your money, chances are you’re ready to escalate your claim.

For those who live in the Greater Houston area, some suggest reaching out to your local congressman or woman to directly address the delay in funds.
