The funeral will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, located at 5501 Main St. in Houston.
DeGeurin is survived by his wife, Gayle, and the couple’s four children, Michael, Katherine, Laura, and Mack. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Hannah, Charles, Guerin, Reid, Ross, Gayle, Keen, and Kaki, and numerous other family members and loved ones.
He is also survived by his older brother, Dick DeGuerin, who is also a prominent criminal defense attorney.
DeGeurin was known for his criminal defense work, working alongside his son, Michael, at the Law Offices of Foreman, DeGeurin & DeGeurin.
He represented many high-profile defendants over his storied career.
“Mike always believed there was good in everyone, and part of his method was to look for that good and present it to the jury, the court, and even the prosecutor in such a way that none of them could deny it,” an exerpt from DeGeurin’s obituary read. “As he often said, ‘You can be a buzzard or a bee: you can look for the rotten in life, or you can look for the flowers and honey; and you will find what you look for.’”
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a memorial contribution to the Galveston-Houston Immigration Representation Project (GHIRP), or to Rothko Chapel in Montrose.
