Emotional discovery: Newborn baby found dead in trash by workers collecting waste in NW Harris County

Surveillance video shows moments workers find body of newborn in back of trash compactor inside truck

HOUSTON – An investigation is underway after a newborn baby boy was found dead inside of a trash bin Wednesday in northwest Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The discovery was made by workers in a waste collection truck who were servicing in a residential neighborhood the 13200 block of Fountain Crest Drive. The baby’s body was in the back of a trash compactor inside the truck.

HCSO investigators will comb through piles of garbage to try to identify who the person who placed the baby in the trash bin.

Neighbors react to the gruesome discovery.

“Oh, this is insane. This is crazy. I never thought anything like this would happen in my neighborhood,” said neighbor Cheryl Boen.

Allen Hamilton and Germany Scott, who are expecting a baby of their own, said they were both home when they heard the garbage truck in their neighborhood. With piles of trash sitting in front of their home, they were waiting for pick up, but Hamilton noticed something was off.

“When I’m washing dishes, I have seen the trash guy on the phone jumping up and down, like hysterical. Like he just saw something,” Hamilton said.

This was the moment, the HCSO’s said the crew found the body of the baby, which is believed to be younger than 30 days old.

“We just immediately started crying because, you know, she bout to be due in a couple weeks,” he said.

“Just tragic that it’s, you know, people can’t, you know, can’t find another way to deal with having a baby and throwing it in the garbage. I mean, that’s just sick,” Boen said.

Investigators are learning details of how the child died and circumstances surrounding the case. No arrests have been made.
