The Texas City Police Department said a physical altercation ensued between the officer, who was working security, and the suspect after the officer attempted to detain him for shoplifting.

The suspect, identified as Conner Williams, 25, resisted, according to the department. The officer used less-lethal weapons in an attempt to gain control of Williams, but they were unsuccessful.

The department said the officer then drew his service weapon and fired one round at Williams. Williams was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

On Wednesday, Williams was released from the hospital and transported to the Galveston County Jail.

He has been charged with attempting to take a weapon from an officer as well as resisting arrest. His total bond is $57,500.
