Is there a Crossing Guard you know who goes above and beyond? We want to hear from you!

With the school year starting up again across Houston, student safety is rightfully back in the spotlight.

One of the many dangers our children face is their commute to school. Whether they are walking, riding a bike, or taking the bus to school, it takes a village to ensure they arrive safely.

Last week, KPRC 2 spoke with Josh Dark about this important issue. His 14-year-old son, Logan, was hit by a driver while riding his bike to school. The Cinco Ranch High School freshman was in a crosswalk without working lights or a crossing guard at the time. Logan’s tragic death shows just how vital an adult with a reflective vest and a stop sign can be.

There’s also an increased need for crossing guards amid school districts slashing bus routes. Many students now face dangerous walks to school, and districts are collaborating with HOA’s, MUD’s, and law enforcement agencies to address concerns.

If there’s a crossing guard you’d like to give a shoutout to, we want to hear from you! Leave a comment on this article or email KPRC 2′s Faith Braverman at fbraverman@kprc.com
