The unidentified woman told authorities that on Sunday morning she was suffering from severe abdominal pains and ended up giving birth to the infant and then passed out.

“After waking up, she discovered the infant unresponsive and deceased. She reported to investigators being scared and admitted to throwing the deceased newborn in the trash,” the statement said.

The baby was then located by workers in a waste collection truck.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences completed their pathology and estimated the baby to be 1-day to 30-days old. “His umbilical cord was detached, and there were apparent injuries consistent with the baby being crushed by the blade of the hopper.”

Because of the baby’s injuries, the pathologist classified his death as “undetermined” and could not say if he was born alive or stillborn.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted by investigators, but no charges have been filed at this time.
