Spring woman confesses to embezzling over $900,000 from her job at HVAC company

SPRING, Texas – A woman from Spring has confessed to embezzling more than $900,000 from a local HVAC company, according to U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Sonia Yvonne Rodriguez, 51, worked as an office manager for the unnamed heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning company for approximately 26 years.

A press release stated that Rodriguez admitted to embezzling $938,387.26 intended for federal tax payments between 2015 and 2020. Prosecutors say she manipulated the company’s accounting software to record tax payments and then diverted the funds into her personal bank account.

U.S. District Judge Alfred H. Bennett accepted her guilty plea and scheduled sentencing for Nov. 21.

Rodriguez faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a potential fine of $250,000. She remains free on bond until the hearing.
