Astros and Rockets fans, rejoice! Improvements could be on the way for two of Houston’s most beloved sports venues.

On Tuesday, the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority Board of Directors voted to move forward with hiring a company to assess the facility conditions for Minute Maid Park and the Toyota Center, the homes of the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets, respectively.

The results of these assessments will give the HCSA insight into what renovations Minute Maid Park (opened in 2000) and the Toyota Center (opened in 2003) will need in the coming years.

Along with the assessments, the HCHSA also approved capital repair investments to both stadiums. These investments will ensure that the venues are up to date compared to other stadiums across the country.

The dates and times for the assessments and following renovations will be decided at a later time.

“Houston has a strong sports brand and hosts some of the best sporting events around, which in turn bring huge economic impact to the entire region,” J. Kent Friedman, the chairman of the HCHSA Board said. “The tourism and business community sees an uptick in revenues when we are awarded these bids and it is our intent to continue hosting prestigious sporting events for many, many years to come.”
