High-speed chase that began as auto-theft investigation ends in officer-involved shooting on East Freeway

HOUSTON – A high-speed chase that started as an auto theft investigation ended in an officer-involved shooting and the arrest of two suspects in east Houston Wednesday afternoon.

According to Houston police, the pursuit started around 12:30 p.m. at 10310 East Freeway.

Police said the chase started as a self-initiated, auto theft investigation that was in progress.

The chase ended about an hour later at 800 Kilroy Street near the intersection of Duncum Street.

During the investigation, Houston police said that two suspects stole a red pickup truck, causing the pursuit. There was a pursuit, and two suspects were arrested.

In another vehicle which police say was related to the auto theft, the second vehicle drove towards an HPD officer.

That’s when the officer shot at the vehicle.

According to officers, no one appeared to be shot or injured following the ordeal.
