HOUSTON – Last year’s District 22 Champions, the Dobie Longhorns, face a tougher challenge this season. This year will be a lot tougher as playoff-caliber teams like Pearland, Shadow Creek, Manvel, Dawson and more will now invade their district territory.
“The district we’re in, it’s smoke. It’s like the SEC,” a player said, highlighting the increased competition.
To help navigate the smoke, the Longhorns have a new fire chief.
The new head coach is Dobie alum, Danny Fitzmorris. Fitzmorris, who is excited to return to his alma mater three months ago, and expressed his enthusiasm for the role.
“It’s been real special, to be able to come back to the Southbelt community,” Fitzmorris shared. “Seeing these kids every day reminds me of some of my teammates back in the day.”

“Honestly, it’s something that the program has been longing for,” a player said. “A guy that really understands what it’s like to be from the Southbelt. What it’s like to bleed burnt orange.”
Fitzmorris led the Longhorns in their season opener against Clear Brook on Aug. 29 and is excited about the road ahead.
