HOUSTON – Even though people aren’t testing like we once were, the wastewater doesn’t lie and there’s a lot of the COVID virus in our wastewater.
Now the FDA approved updated Pfizer and Moderna COVID vaccines as the virus surges this summer.
When exactly should you get the new shot?
Shots are on track to be available “any day now” and according to pharmacist Brieanna Hockenberry at CVS in Katy, she and the customers are anxious to get them.
“Seeing those COVID tests become positive, seeing the Paxlovid distributed, I’m very excited for a community to just have that preventative measure,” Hockenberry said.
The new vaccines target the ‘KP.2′ strain which accounts for roughly 3% of all U.S. cases, according to the latest CDC data.
Pfizer and Moderna say their vaccines can produce stronger immune responses against circulating variants.
“We want to get people immunized earlier rather than later, so kind of before, in the beginning of fall so before October to the end of October would be ideal,” Hockenberry said.
The CDC recommends everyone over 6 months old receive an updated COVID vaccine this year.
The pharmacist said it is safe to get both the flu and COVID vaccine at the same time.
