According to a Facebook post, Bryan Fire Department crews stepped in with lifesaving measures for a dog they first thought died in an apartment fire.
Firefighters were called out to the apartments in the 3200 block of Finfeather Rd in Bryan early Tuesday morning. When they arrived, initial crews saw heavy smoke pouring from one of the units.
Public Information Officer for the Bryan Fire Department Chris Lamb tells KPRC 2 News firefighters got the fire under control quickly and made sure everyone got out safely. When fire crews pulled the dog from one of the apartments, she was shallow breathing and lifeless.
Minutes later they realized the dog was alive!
“We gave the dog oxygen for about an hour,” Lamb said. “After the time lapsed the dog perked up and wagged his tail and is doing just fine.”
The lifesaving gesture did not go unnoticed by people in the community.
Just some of the comments on the Bryan Firefighter Facebook page show:
“Thank you for caring!”
“What a beautiful story of human kindness!”
“What a great catch guys!”
“Solid work fellas!”
Lamb says all firefighters carry specialized mask units for pets.
