HOUSTON – It has been a few days of on and off rain.

Wednesday saw less rainfall in the area, but that looks to change starting Thursday morning as more tropical moisture gets funneled into Southeast Texas from the Gulf of Mexico.
An area of high pressure off to the northeast is helping push this moisture into our area and rainfall amounts could be on the potent side for the next few days.
Thursday morning commute
Thunderstorms will start to move inland from coastal counties starting early Thursday morning. The storms aren’t expected to be severe, but thunder, lightning, and at times extremely heavy rainfall is possible.
These storms will lead to quite a mess on the roads as they move through the area so give yourself extra time to get to your destination. Right now, it appears the heaviest of the rain will be in coastal counties, like Galveston and Chambers counties.
By 8-9 a.m., the initial wave of storms should be moving through parts of Harris County. Following this, most of the rain should be confined to our coastal cities.
Rainfall and flooding risk
The rain threat will stick around into Friday and more heavy rainfall will be possible.
Because of this, a slight risk of flooding has been introduced for coastal areas stretching from Brazoria County, through Galveston County, and into the Port Arthur area. A marginal flood risk exists further inland.
The rain over the next seven days could be intense, especially for areas along the coast. A bullseye of 10 inches is being shown in Galveston.
Further inland, three to four inches of rainfall will be common as well.
Be cautious when driving over the next few days. Make sure to drive safely and give yourself extra time.
