Houston police officer hospitalized after hit-and-run driver runs red light

HOUSTON – A search is underway for a driver accused of hitting a police officer’s car Thursday night and leaving their vehicle behind.

It happened on the Sam Houston feeder Rd. just north of Richmond and Rogerdale. in west Houston a little after 11 p.m. That’s where investigators say an unidentified officer with the Houston Police Department was going through the intersection when another driver ran a red light and crashed into her patrol car.

We’re told the officer had her lights and sirens on when she was driving.

Officers looked through the area and found the striking vehicle, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

Meanwhile, the unidentified officer was rushed to Memorial Hospital in Katy, where she was last said to be in stable condition. HPD says it’s working with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to find the hit-and-run driver and what charges they will be facing.
