Aide accused of beating intellectually disabled man with electric cord at Pearland facility, state investigates

PEARLAND, Texas – A Pearland facility whose mission is to help physically and mentally disabled people is now under investigation by Texas state authorities.

Forgotten Angels, Inc., is the subject of a Texas Health and Human Services investigation, a spokesperson confirmed with KPRC 2 Investigates.

An anonymous tip submitted to the KPRC 2 Help Desk led to the discovery of the alleged abuse.

A spokesperson for the state agency says they are investigating a complaint of an aide at Forgotten Angels who reportedly used an electric cord to beat an adult man with intellectual disabilities.

Forgotten Angels, which was founded by Pearland businesswoman Renee McGuire in 2001, operates a “dayhab,” re-sale shop and other functions for those with disabilities.

McGuire spoke with KPRC 2′s Gage Goulding on the phone briefly Friday evening, saying she was aware of the incident that took place “five or six months ago.”

She wouldn’t go into details on the incident, the aide or the victim.

At the dayhab facility on Industrial Boulevard, staffers walking in the parking lot wouldn’t answer questions and no one would answer the phone.

The administrator at the facility told McGuire that she would contact KPRC 2 after the Labor Day holiday weekend.

According to McGuire, that staffer would not be allowed to work until the completion of the investigation.
