Chief Diaz is replacing former HPD Chief Troy Finner, while Chief Muñoz is stepping into former HFD Chief Sam Peña’s shoes.

The chiefs took time to speak with residents and local business owners, and both expressed their pride in the community and excitement to serve the city.

“It’s important because first, I want the people to know that I work for them. Second, it’s good to be back in my culture, my roots. And third, that I’m here for them,” said Chief Muñoz.

“It is my distinct pleasure to be here and visit with them. This is what Houston is. This is a community. It’s very diverse with different ideas that make this community so gracious and growing. It’s on the move,” said Diaz.

Both chiefs heard community concerns about staffing, and responsibility for their agencies.

They each responded saying they are putting trust in their organizations and Mayor John Whitmire’s plans.
